GUILD STRUCTURE

The Guild will be made up of 8 Houses, each house representing one of the eight virtues, Valour, Justice, Humility, Sacrifice, Spirituality, Compassion, Honour and Honesty.

Each house will be headed by a Lord or Lady representing the Virtue.

Within the Guild there will be two arms, the Nobility Arm and the Military Arm… The titles and ranks of each are as follows :

MILITARY

Man At Arms

Sergeant

Lieutenant

Captain

NOBILITY

Squire

Knight Bachelor

Knight Banneret

Baronet

Baron

Viscount

Earl

Duke

Lord

All members of the Military arm must obey orders from ANY member of the Nobility arm and of course have to follow the chain of command. The Military Arm will be made up of squads - each squad will consists of 5 men, 4 Men at Arms and 1 Sergeant. A Lieutenant will be in command of 3-4 Squads. Each House will only have 1 Captain.

A member of the Military may become a member of the Nobility if a Knight is willing to take on a Squire. A Squire must service a Knight Bachelor until a time as such that the squire has performed satisfyingly and will then be Knighted to Knight Bachelor. A Knight Bachelor, upon completion of a quest for his/her house and after successfully training a squire to a knight will then qualify for promotion to Knight Banneret. A Knight Banneret must uphold the spirit of his house at all times and after performing great deeds to promote his 'Virtue' will then be granted the title of Baronet and be given landholdings.

Decisions within the guild will be made by the council of 8 - the Lords/Ladies of each house. Where there is dispute, a vote will take place whereby all members of the Nobility Arm may cast a vote.

THE 8 HOUSES OF VIRTUE

Each House will have different colours to represent them and they are as follows

House of Sacrifice - Orange

House of Justice - Green

House of Compassion - Yellow

House of Honesty - Blue

House of Honour - Purple

House of Humility - Black

House of Valour - Red

House of Spirituality - White

Different shades are of course acceptable as long as the colour is distinguishing as to which House it represents.

ARMOURMENT

This is really to be applied to the Military Arm - as each House will be responsible for patrolling areas in and around each Shrine corresponding to each house - the Military Arm is the Core of the Guilds Fighting Force and is a basis for training young warriors in the ways of the Virtues in hope that they will work their way into Nobility. Since many of the members of the Military Arm will be fresh warriors - they are encouraged to wear the uniform armour type suited to their rank - this is for best performance and also to minimize personal financial loss to each member…

Men At Arms - Ring Mail

Sergeants - Chain Mail

Lieutenant - Archer Suit

Captains - Plate Mail

These, providing the guild is doing well, will be supplied to the men/women of the military arm on the understanding that this equipment will be used to serve the guild and not sold immediately. Obviously members are welcome to wear better armour if so desired but of course could potentially suffer personal loss - which can be a hindrance when in the heat of battle when one is concerned overly with personal risk.

OTHER PROFESSIONALS

All other professions are welcome in our guild as we seek to become self sufficient, each house of course will have it's own character and flavour and members with other skills are encouraged to group together with fellow members of same profession for training and information sake. Below is what each house will hopefully comprise of.

House of Sacrifice - Spies, Assassins, Thieves

House of Justice - Detectives

House of Compassion - Healers, Alchemists

House of Honesty - Tinkers, Blacksmiths, Carpenters

House of Honour - Fletchers, Tailors

House of Humility - Shepherds, Animal Tamers

House of Valour - Miners, Lumberjacks

House of Spirituality - Mages, Musicians,

QUESTING

For each House, in order to further the cause of each Virtue, different quests will be taken by the Knights and Squires… the types of tasks and missions that each House should be concentrating on are as follows…

House of Sacrifice - Reconnaissance, Spying, Counter-Spying, Guild Intelligence

The House of Sacrifice will consist of individuals that will renounce all personal glory and act in the interest of the Guild as the prime directive. Often they will be expected to work alone, gathering information and preparing the guild for any potential threats. The Lord of Sacrifice will not be known to anyone except the other 7 Lords. His title will not betray him and his identity will be top secret as he/she will be our most skilled agent, ready to perform the most difficult of tasks.

House of Justice - Bounty Hunting

The main concern if the House of Justice is to make sure justice is served. They will be involved in hunting down known criminals and murderers and also any miscreants that have somehow evaded the justice system. This House will use whatever means necessary to bring down these criminals, even if it meant breaking the occasional law themselves. Obviously these acts will have to be justified and the Lord of the House of Justice will be responsible for the actions of his Bounty Hunters.

House of Compassion - Healing, Rescues

Members of the House of Compassion will mostly search for where citizens are held against their will by minions of evil and rescue them and also delivering them safely back home. Members of the House of Compassion are expected to aid anyone who needs help and healing.

House of Honesty - Fair Trading

The House of Honesty will be the commercial backbone of the Guild. Their responsibility is to ensure that fair trade is taking place in the land by offering fierce competition. To gain loyalty of customers for the Vendors working for members of the Guild. Obviously they also monitor the trading standards of members of the Guild also.

House of Honour - Defenders of the Guild

Members of the House of Honour are to promote the guild in all ways, to recruit new members with potential. They are also expected to defend the honour of the Guild and are responsible for any in-guild transgressions.

House of Humility - Questors

Those within the House of Humility are expected to mix in with the general populous. This House will not have it's own Military Arm as they are to fight amongst those in Britannia that are not within guilds. To help them or to try and bring them within the embrace of the Guild. Mostly Knight Bannerets and Squires, the House of Humility is a good house for a Knight to journey the world seeking adventure and helping the weak and innocent wherever they travel.

House of Valour - Defenders of The Land.

With some of the best fighting units in the Guild, The House of Valour will be wherever evil minions strike in Britannia, be it an Orc invasion or a Troll Attack, members of the House of Valour are expected to be at these places, helping to defend the land against these evil minions.

House of Spirituality - Magic Research, Library

The House of Spirituality will have amongst its members the best mages in the Guild. They are to research spells magic items as well as show an interest in all things spiritual. They will quest for rare artefacts and also be responsible for the Guild's library and museum.

Of course there is nothing stopping what each member does, however, for advancement, they need to perform quests that promote the Virtue of their House.

IN THE EVENT OF WAR

WAR is an enemy in itself, WAR is also seen as an extension of politics. We are not serving the land by warring upon other guilds. However, in the event of Murderer Guilds forming, it is in our interest to eliminate them. WAR should never be entered lightly, there is always much preparation and intelligence gathering before we will commit to a WAR. Our prime directive is to restore Virtues in the Land of Britannia, to make the land a safer and happier place for our innocent citizens.

Because of this, we will never back out of WAR until the enemy surrenders since we will be fighting for a cause that is worth dying for. However there is no reason to enter a WAR which we cannot win. We will triumph through our faith and trust in fellow guild members, through our unity and through our Strength.

TALES OF THE HOUSES OF VIRTUES

In order to gain promotion and recognition within the guild, all worthy acts need to be witnessed and be documented by our scribes and records kept in the Guild Library. Tales of deeds performed by our members will be a source of inspiration for others as well as eliminating any doubt as to the legitimacy of any claims made by members who have exulted themselves in serving their House.

COMBAT TACTICS

It is hoped that each house will adopt their own fighting styles - and therefore through internal exercises each House can learn from others. It is important at all times that a strict chain of command is kept. The Captain is the Top Man in the military arm, they will take orders only from the Nobility - since Squires should be servicing their Knights they should always defer to their Knight to give orders to the Captain.

The Captains are responsible for looking after the squads. The Sergeants are immediately responsible for his squad of 4 men, relaying the Orders given by the Captain. The Sergeant is also to distribute equipment and also take care of the welfare of his men. The Captain will oversee the squads under his command and will be the link to the Nobility Arm of the Guild.

CASTLE

One of the First Aims of the Guild is to save enough money to buy a Castle. Th e castle will be the base of the entire guild - at first only the 8 Lords will have keys - UNTIL the Castle will become an OPEN INSTITUTIO N - once the castle is bought, we will ask OSI to allow us to lock down furniture and lockable chests etc and then allow the Castle to be open to the public (A condition that OSI will impose for the lock-down benefits etc)

One Very SIMPLE reason for this - If it is a Public Institution, it cannot be 'stolen'.

Also - we would like the public to access our libraries, to enter and be able to see our exercises, to be able to join or be inspired to go away and serve the Virtues in their own ways. It would be ideal if all members would initially work hard to contribute towards the building of the Castle of Virtues. A million gold is a vast amount, however, with the size of the Guild that we are aiming for, it would not require much from each individual before this objective is achieved.

LONG TERM OBJECTIVES

  1. To Become an Institution that represents the Virtues of Britannia
  2. To Make War on any individuals or guilds or groups that oppose the Virtues.
  3. To Eventually Overthrow the Monarchy and establish a Republic in Britannia.
  4. To Be a Guild where each member can walk Britannia proudly and be recognized by the populous that we are upholding what is essentially the core of what keeps a society functioning and evolving towards enlightenment.

HOW TO JOIN

In Order to Join this Guild, the interested party MUST have a member of the Nobility Arm (Except Squires) SPONSOR them. And then they will need to meet at least 5 of the Lords and only when the Majority of the LORDS give consent will a member be enrolled. WE DO NOT wish it easy for people to join…. SINCE we demand loyalty and honesty from our members as we will also Place Faith in our members and aid them whenever possible - Sometimes in an event where the interested party is not known to any of the Lords or if a decision could not be reached satisfactorily, a condition may be placed - a quest for example, which needs to be met before a person may become a member of the guild.

MISCONDUCT

Simple disciplinary actions can be handed out by Sergeants and Captains… however if the matter is of greater significance ie Anyone found to be acting against the Guild's Interest will be served a summon to appear before the Council of Eight. Failure to appear will mean the immediate removal from the guild (Obviously a suitable time can be arranged)

Before the Council, the party concerned will be charged and then given a chance to present his/her case. The C ouncil again will act as a jury and a decision will be made democratically as to what action will be taken.

ABSENCE

In the Event that a Lord of the House's presence is required but he/she cannot attend, a Baron of the same house will represent, and so on down the line - but only down to Knight Bachelor. In the event that no Barons or Knight Bachelors are available - a Baron or Knight Bachelor from another house will represent.

CRAFTSMEN

Each House will of course have members that do not wish to involve themselves in War or Politics - Each House will have it's own craftsmen that will also be represented by the most senior (highest skilled) craftsman of that trade - There will be also a Council of Master Craftsmen who may petition directly to the Council of Eight - again - a democratic system will be used within the Council of Master Craftsmen - This Council is representative of craftsmen in all Houses.

( In many cases - these craftsmen will be secondary characters of players within the Guild )

INDIVIDUAL/HOUSE DISPUTES

In the Event of Disputes - These must be reported to a member of the Nobility of the involved House.

There are 2 ways in which disputes will be settled -

  1. The case will be brought to the Council (if it cannot be resolved by Captains or a member of the Nobility) and will be settled by the Council - that decision will be final. ( An appeal will only be permitted if new evidence presents itself
  2. By Combat - both parties must agree to this and the matter will be settled by Combat - to be witnessed by at least 1 Noble of each House involved and a Noble from a non-involved House.

Any Foul Play will immediately nullify the Right to Settle by Combat.
